043 Shepherd & The Shrink What Does it REALLY Mean to Love Our Enemies?

Anger and division are at a high in our country right now, and the problems stem largely from hate. Political discussion is fueled by a want for revenge and an attitude of one-upmanship. Love is missing, and we need to bring it back.

Today we talk about loving your enemy. We define love and note that it’s not just a strong form of liking your enemy. We talk about the importance of treating your enemies with dignity instead of attempting to strip them of it. We discuss the need for making sure our opinions about people are based on something we’ve discovered for ourselves, not something we’ve been told about them. We talk about the dangers of grouping people into a bunch instead of viewing them as the individuals they are, and we end by distinguishing between love in words and love in actions.

“Loving your enemies is the quickest way to get rid of an enemy.” Dr. Matt Hook

“We’re talking about the human, not the ideologies.” Dr. Marty Fletcher

“Hate means you’ve got work to do.” Dr. Matt Hook
