SS036 Shepherd & The Shrink The Strength in Showing Your Sorrow
We go through so much sorrow in our lives in so many things, and because of sorrow’s close connection to our ability to find meaning, it’s important to find a spiritually and mentally healthy way of coping with it.
Today, we talk about sorrow. We define it and note its connection to meaning. We talk about how incapable humans are of living without meaning, and we talk about how you can actually help a sorrowful friend and let them know you’re there for them. We talk about the toll COVID-19 has taken on us emotionally. We talk about why hiding your emotions is not a sign of strength but often just the opposite. We note the shortest verse in the Bible--“Jesus wept”--and talk about what it means for us. We talk about the best way to recover through allowing yourself to grieve. We note the dangers of watered-down Christianity and the importance of staying focused on God. Finally, we note that your life is your message and that it’s not enough to just say what you believe in if you don’t live it.
“If Jesus is our life, if He’s our pattern for living, if He’s our Lord, then we’ve been fed this lie if we somehow have this aversion to showing our emotions.”
- Dr. Marty Fletcher
