Getting Out of Your Comfort Zone

Welcome to the Shepherd and the Shrink Podcast! I’m your co-host and the “Shepherd” of the show, Dr. Matt Hook. I’m the Senior Pastor at Dexter United Methodist Church and I’m on two missions: To get into heaven and take as many people with me as possible, and to provide as many ministry opportunities for as many people as possible. I grew up in Birmingham, Michigan, earned dual-degrees in Music and Business at the DePauw University, a Masters degree in Divinity at the Garrett-Evangelical Seminary, and a Doctorate degree in Ministry from the Asbury Theological Seminary. After meeting my beautiful wife, Leigh, we moved to Dexter, Michigan with our four children: Hunter, Jillianne, Graham, and Joy.

In today’s episode, I share a little about who I am and why I am constantly challenging myself to live beyond my comfort zone. I describe how stepping out of your comfort zone helps you embrace God and invite him deeper into your life. I share examples of times I’ve stepped out of my comfort zone to embark on new experiences and how they have enriched my life while helping me learn more about God. I discuss why it’s critical for parents to encourage their children to live beyond their comfort zones and how it impacts the way they treat others and view the world around them. I also explain the importance of having the courage to allow God to guide your path in facing your challenges and why God is not the destination we seek, but rather the way to achieve our desires.

“To be a good human, you need to get beyond your comfort zone.”
